Coming ‘atcha live from my computer! That’s right folks I seemed to have fixed the problem all by myself. With some googling, a couple visits to my favorite nerd hangout, Micro Center, and about $50 later, I seem to be up and running again. I am going to assume this computer is still on it’s last leg, and am making sure everything is backed up. Constantly.
Basically what happened is the computer wouldn't power on. Instead it gave me a blinking amber light at the power button. Google said it was probably a power supply issue (bad but fixable), but could also be a motherboard failure (really bad). The motherboard looked okay, so I went and bought both a new hard drive enclosure (to run the old hard drive on a new computer as an external) and a new power supply for $16 and gave it a shot. So far so good.
Are you bored yet? Yeah me too.
Computers suck. Unless I am getting a refurbished machine, I am pretty firm in my decision to no longer buy Dell. I have had nothing but problems and they have never lasted more than 4 years for me. I know I should be buying a Mac if I want things to last, but I am not quite ready for the commitment. But dang, are those Mac Book Airs sweet looking.
Ever have a computer crash on you at the worst moment possible?
The worst was when my motherboard went out on my previous computer, a laptop, while I was designing my wedding invitations. I lost some pictures and files, but the worst was losing the hours I had put into the design of all the paper goods 3 months before the wedding! Talk about a major freak out :)
