So a few weeks ago I was minding my business doing some teeth flossing. It’s not that I mind it so much, it’s just a pain when you have permanent upper and lower retainers. You gotta get special floss and then it gets stuck sometimes. So during this incident, some cheapo floss got stuck (sort of like when you are eating corn on the cob and it gets stuck) so it was driving me crazy. I took out the heavy duty floss to try to get it and SNAP. Off comes my upper retainer. You know what is more annoying then a tiny piece of floss? A giant piece of sharp metal. Okay, okay, maybe giant is a little bit of an exaggeration. Good thing I was headed to the dentist the next day. The hygienist took the rest of it off and got out that awesome drill thingy to “sand” off the rest of the cement that held that wire in place since oh about 13 years. Man I love that drill thingy.
Fast forward to today and I got a new one. Only I feel like I have braces all over again. I might be drooling on my keyboard right now. I am talking “like disss” – or at least it feels that way. So…is it all worth it? I think so. Considering the massive investment my parents made on these babies starting at about age 12. I had it all. Teeth were pulled, things were spaced out, braces were put on, those tiny rubber bands were found everywhere, retainers lost…and in the end I was left with a pretty decent set of teeth. At least my dentist thinks so. Every time I see him – “ oh these teeth! I remember these.”
I will spare you a picture of the new retainer. But it’s shiny and bumpy and hopefully there to stay for a while.
Did you have braces? It seems like everyone gets them these days. Any fun stories?
