Run to the gym?

When I joined my current gym, I choose it heavily based on it’s location.  I knew if it wasn’t close to home, I wouldn’t end up going as much.  Since it is close, I thought to myself “huh, I should bike there sometimes,” much like Kath of KERF does quite often. Well, that never happened last summer for whatever reason.

This year however, I plan to do that more often.  It wasn’t exactly a heat wave yesterday, so I thought to myself “huh, I suppose I could run there.”  So I brought up the handy dandy new Google maps option of choosing your directions by bike.  If you haven’t checked this out yet, it is pretty cool.  In the image below, all the green lines are dedicated bike trails in this area.  Some of them go a lonnnnggg ways.  I am fortunate to live fairly close to some of these.bike map

My route to the gym covered 3 miles.  It wasn’t the most direct route, but I took the route that was on both trails and quiet side streets.  So hopefully in the next few weeks, I will be able to bike there more often.  3 miles on the bike will go by in a blink of the eye.

Have you checked out a new bike/running route using the new Google maps feature?

  1. Unfortunately I don't have a bike, but I've run to my gym before (it's about 3 miles away). It works out really well when my husband is going too; I'll run there and then go in and do a strength workout, and then he drives me home. :)

  2. I think I could run to my gym, work out, but then I wouldn't have enough energy to run home! I like Katie's situation :)
