Challenges

Usually after the 1st of the year, I see a lot of challenges out there. A lot of people set themselves up with hefty New Years resolutions and get to work. Many people succeed, but studies show that the motivation wanes and people drop out of gyms after a few weeks. I participated in a challenge last year that started in January which led me to a decent weight loss and transformation. It was so great to have support and have to face my peers if I didn't succeed. Having accountability is probably my #1 tip for succeeding in weight loss.

Anyway, there is a challenge starting up November 9th over at Body By Eats. Its a quick little 6 week challenge just in time to get in shape for the holidays, not after. Another Holiday challenge was started by Kelsey over at The Nest. I decided to join in because its a great way to participate with a group and the goals are more then weight loss, but include well being goals like drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, reading a health or fitness related book, and cooking a new healthy recipe. It should be fun to see how everyone does! If anything, the aspect of doing the challenge as a community will help everyone.

I came across yet another challenge at JP's for kettlebell swings. The goal is to do 200 swings each day for a month. I was late to the party, but I might try to do this for the rest of the month. I might not get to it everyday, but I want to challenge myself to try. This is something that will most likely only take 10 minutes out of my day, but has mega benefits. If you don't have access to a kettlebell, you can use dumbbells for swings just as easily. (There are videos in the post linked above if you are infamiliar with swings.)

So, in addition to my weekly workout report, I will include my points from the Nest challenge, as well as my weekly kettlebell report.

Don't wait until after the holidays to get your butt in gear! Get a head start now, and the work will be that much easier after all the parties, celebrating, egg nog, and pie :)

  1. Awesome! I'm also doing the HF challenge and I'm really excited! I'm also doing a Sparkpeople challenge on our local board (30 workouts in 30 days), so I'm just all around pumped. GL with everything!
