The bee's knee's, the ant's pants, the cats pajamas...are all phrases that refer to something great. Striving to live a healthy, happy life - one that is the bee's knees is what this blog is about.
Who am I? I am a Minnesota girl in her 20's, who met her best friend in college and was lucky enough to marry him in 2007. I refer to him as Mr. BKL or just my husband. I love running, lifting weights, reading, music, and sports. I also like to cook and bake; and most of it is healthy. Most.
A little background about why I started the blog....
About 3 years ago, I realized that I needed to make a change. I have been active, athletic, and fairly conscious of the food I eat since I can remember. Among my athletic endeavors were soccer, cross country, and track. I kept up running through college and still find it to be my go-to activity of choice. After college, the scale kept creeping up and my diet went from okay to too much quantity, and too little quality. I kept believing that wrongly popular saying as long as you workout, you can eat whatever you want. Finally I decided to start doing something and I slowly started to change my ways. I started focusing on quality food and being mindful of portions. I also started focusing on heavy lifting and less cardio. Sometimes, less is more. In fact it almost always is when trying to lose weight.
In that time I found myself wanting to learn more about food and fitness. I read a lot, am constantly learning about fitness and nutrition from professionals and other healthy bloggers, and am always trying to be creative in the kitchen. I also hope to give back to the community that has given me so much and hopefully "pay it forward" by hopefully helping others...or at least having some fun and laughs along the way. That being said, I am in no way a professional. I have no formal training in fitness or nutrition. Embarking on new exercise programs or nutrition regimes should always be discussed with your health professional.
